jama3a = form one

add alif and ta to the verb stem equals = ijtama3a = yajtami3u :)

i think jama3a is more like if you gather something together, but ijtama3a is if you have a gathering as in a meeting, which is where you get the word ijtimaa3un = meeting

well I do have Arabic to type with.... but personally i jst find it takes alot longer cos its not like I have arabic computer so i have 2 go to the prog n do it and copy and paste, and then others have 2 go change their encoding 2 view it...it is better to use arabic letters but on the internet I jst dont. If i'm writing on paper I would never do the transliteration like this :p

you can put haraka on the letters if you shift q, w, e, r, and a

= I dno this verb abdhal so i'll jst presume its right :p I usually say uHaawilu for I try, so past tense will be - Haawaltu an aTbakha aklan
an - in fusha you need it because it joins these two verbs for you, in slang you can jst put them next to each other but its not really good grammar, so when you have this "an" to join it you have to put the following verb in the subjunctive (ya3any the one with the fatha... i forget the arabic name :p ), and the food is the object so of course you have to put that with fatha aswell, and indefinate means the fatha will b a tanween



fi 3aTlati asbaH fil baHr = was past tense so you need SabaHtu, I'd put SabaHtu fil baHri fi 3aTlatee
ie changing word order to have subject first cs my teacher sed its preferred in fusha 2 do that and have time at the end, only other ting I put kasra on baHr to show the case ending after preposition (fi)



HafaDHa al walad jarr lil Qur'an
- case ending of the boy is nominative so it takes a dhamma, the part is accusative so fatha and qur'an is genative so kasra... I dno the word jarr, I say juz' so im jst gna use mne cos i dno the other one :p

ra'aana qird sagheer fil hadiqa al Haiyawaanat -
raa' is a weak verb so you cant really jst say ra'aana, it takes yaa in the middle, i cnt tell u why, its got 2 weaknesses (the hamza and the alif) so its a bit hard, it jst takes it cos it jst does :p
ra'aynaa qirdan Sagheeran fi Hadeeqati-l-Hayawaanaati
the monkey is in accusative, so it's adjective (sagheer) has to be too cos it has to follow in case. hadeeqatu-l-hayawaanaati is Idafa so never can you put AL hadeeqatu-l-hayawaanat, and the hadeeqa takes kasra bc of the preposotion fi

:up: it was a funny sentence, wasn't it :p one of the first sentences I made up after studying the first few chapters from "mastering Arabic" was "laysa hunaka himar fil khazana" and there was a time when the only Arabic I could say was this and "hunaka himar bijaanib al bayt" and "sharon kelb" and "al intiSaar lil intifaada" and "al quds lana naHnu qaadimoon" (the last two I learned on demos, not from "mastering Arabic" :D)

hmm vocab learning our lecturer was like "I favour the flashcard system" but I gave up on that one because my cards were so scruffy and they didnt all match because some where pink and some were white and I didnt cut them exactly even so I chucked em in the bin :banghead: I like it when me and my mates test each other that can be quite good :) plus I also heard once you used a word over 5 times in dif contexts etc its more likely to stick in ur head, so I jst tend to learn mine from using it in class work, homework etc plus if you read alot and watch tv you pick up vocab but then when you didnt use a word for a while it can slip out of ur head again, altho the 2nd time round u relearn it, insha allah it will b more likely 2 stay because the word isnt completely new for you?

well I have white flashcards (vocab from class, including vocab from the next chapter cause we were told to swot up on it for next term :up: ) yellow flascards (adjectives from Miftah al Arabiy extension book 2) and pink flashcards (nouns and other words from Miftah al Arabiy extension book 2) I'm still at the beginning of the book and I thought it would be better to learn the words rather than keep on looking them up all the time. Lots of animals :D

Althought I come from an "arabic-speaking background" my fus'ha is terrible, so those who are learning true classical arabic shouldn't be expected to interpret/understand slang. now I've got to find a waterproof pen and write the Arabic letters on my keyboard all over again ........ cause the letters I wrote on it before have all rubbed off :( so I'll be able to write back in Arabic without having to try 8 or 10 letters until I get the right one :banghead:
you can get stickers for ur keyboard so it looks professional n the letters wont fade so easy ;)

I've written them in in permanent red ink...... though its the same pen I used last time and it wasn't that permanent then either.....

that didnt work for us it rubbed off so we enabled our desktop to have web content and put these two keys on the desktop and memorized it that way... while im not real good with arabic i pretty much know my keyboard lolol...

if you save them to your desktop in a place you can see them (top corner) while having your page open you can look at them as you type :)

that's quite a good idea actually, and encourages touch typing..... though I don't see how I'll ever learn touch typing in Arabic until I'm so much better at writing and spelling in Arabic....

i got one prog where i can open the arabic keyboard within it, but say if using microsoft word...how do u do that?
