Iran rejects US safety concerns for wrestlers in Tehran

Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA -- Government spokesman Abdullah Ramezanzadeh
here Thursday rejected comments by US wrestling executives on threats
against US freestyle national squad in Tehran, stressing that the
Islamic Republic enjoys full security and there is no such
threats to US wrestlers.
Ramezanzadeh, talking to reporters, said those comments had been
merely a pretext for the country not to enter the world championships.
"We have already announced that we will have US wrestlers
fingerprinted, the same way US officials have occasionally behaved
Iranian wrestlers upon their arrival in the United States," he said.
"Maybe, this is the reason why they withdrew from Tehran
championships."
He said all nations are well aware of the security prevailing in
the Islamic Republic, and that Iran never needed the comments by US
officials on the realities in the Islamic Republic.
US freestyle wrestling executives last week announced they will
not send a national squad to participate in next week's freestyle
world championships in Tehran for the fear of threats against team
members in Iran.

This post of yours is very misguided and insulting to Iran and Iranians. Its not a trust issue, its a political issue. Many Americans and westerners visit Iran and return quite safely and enjoy their time there. Iran has also successfully staged sports events involving western competitors without any problems or incidents. The Irish national football team had to play Iran in a World Cup playoff last year, one leg of which was in Iran. The Irish (staunch Catholics) football team travelled out as did many supporters and were warmly greeted and played a good match. The supporters enjoyed themselves too (apart from the fact they could not get any alcohol).

yes i do use it sometimes, Islams Iran has given up a lot for Islam and gaind freedom for it, its one of the only countrys that has no Puppets for rulers, and the other brother countrys that dont have puppets (lets say syria) have rulers that are out for their own not islam. every thing the Islamic Republic does is for Islam. under the shah iran was on its way of becoming the worlds fifth power by 1990, but Islams Iranians gave it up, while regular iranians and shaytans iranians left.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to question security for an American team in Iran right now - especially given the fact that all of the Islamic world hates "America - but not Americans" and what about the freaking fatwas floating around out there. I dont understand how Iranians could possible be upset by that. No one treats the Iranians bad like that. Its perfectly reasonable. If Americans had kidnapped a bunch of Iranians cuz we didnt like their governement , then I would say that Iranians had every right to ask questions about security before they ever came back over. Funny thing is though, we never kidnapped any Iranians. When the Iranians arrived to the Olypmic games in Utah they were given special treatment and whisked through the airport. So, I guess I think that the American team ought to be a little peeved at the arrogant behaviour of the Iranian government towards them.

There is a difference b/w Islam and Shiism. Iran might have given a lot for shiism but not for Islam. If it was true to its claims they why are the sunnis in Iran in misery? Why cant they have their own mosques? Why are their scholars and noteable figures executed by the notorious rafidhi regime? why are their women is threatened to be raped? why are they restricted in praising the companions and naming their children as such? why are the discriminated and humiliated? THE title of this thread is itself a big Joke!!! the majority of the Iranians over 50% of them,dream and long to see that day when they are back in love with America.
