Hikmah |
There was a man, at the time of the Prophet Muhammad [PBUH=May Allah grant him Peace] who was enjoying the day, walking along the river. He spotted a fig floating along the stream and soon picked it up and began eating it. The day had passed and he was walking peacefully home when, suddenly, he remembered that this fruit must belong to someone and that the fruit had certainly fallen from a tree bent over the channel. He then walked his way back and finally reached an orchard where he found a number of palm-trees loaded with these figs. Nearby he found a house. Soon he knocked at the door and asked to talk to the owner of the garden. A man appeared almost immediately and asked him the subject of his visit. "I have come to pay for a fruit I have picked up in the river and which must belong to this garden." The man looked at him straight in the eyes for a few minutes, then declared:"I refuse." The young man took fear of Allah Taalah and exclaimed: "By Allah! What do you want from me to do, brother, so i can reemburse you for the value of this fruit?" "I do not want money. I do not want labor. But I have a daughter who is in age of being married. If she consents to the marriage, would you take her?" The young man who feared Allah Taalah immediatly accepted. However, the old man continued: "I must warn you: she is deaf and blind." "I accept the same way," said the young man. The daughter accepted, and came the moment where the bride and groom found themselves together alone. Soon, the man saw that the lady was in fact neither deaf, not blind. The day after the marriage, he went to the father's house to ask him why he had not said the truth. The old man answered: "I did not tell you lies. My daughter is actually deaf and blind. She is deaf because she has never heard any gossip, and she is blind because she has never seen any shameful thing. I wanted to assure a good husband for my daughter, that's why i improved you faith." |
