Inheritance

Malik related to me from Ibn Shihab from 'Amir ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas that

The Messenger of Allah [PBUH= may Allah bless him and grant him peace] came one day to see a man who was in great pain, the year of the farewell Hajj.
The man said: "Messenger of Allah, see how the pain affects me. I can be near my death and I have property and only my daughter inherits from me. I would like to give two-thirds of my property as Sadaqa?[charity]"
The Messenger of Allah [PBUH] replied: "No."
"Then half then?"

"No. Give a third, and a third is a lot. It is better to leave your heirs rich than to leave them poor and begging from people. You never spend anything looking for somebody and desiring Allah's Grace by it, but that you are rewarded for it , even what you spend for your wife."
Then the ill man said:
"Messenger of Allah, do you have to leave me here, in Makkah, after my companions have departed for Madina?"
"If you are left behind, and you perform good deeds, you will increase your degree and elevation by them. Perhaps if you are left behind is to benefit other people and maybe others may not be harmed by you. Ya Allah! Complete my companions'emigration in the way of Allah, and do not turn them back on their heels. The unfortunate one is Sa'id ibn Khawla."
The Messenger of Allah [PBUH] was distressed on his account because he had died in Makkah.
