In the name of Allah, the All Merciful,
the All Compassionate.
The Master of Time, the Creator of the Universe.
The One without partner or equal.
The One who does not beget, nor was begotten.
The One who does not resemble nor relies on His
creation.
May Allahs peace and blessings be on
Muhammad al-Mustapha, the Seal of Prophethood, the
Final Messenger of Allah and the mercy to Mankind.
May Allahs peace and blessings be on the
pure and cleansed Household and Progeny of Muhammad
the most beloved of Allah.
Before we start the
discussion we should bear in mind what Allah (swt)
says about life and living creatures:
1. We are told by Allah (s.w.t.) in
the Holy Qur'an that
the Angels and their universe was created from the
purest light (energy), light without heat (in our
universe it is not possible to create pure light due
to the degree of disorder (entropy?) required to
maintain the cosmic balance. We are also told that
the Angels are beings who are created without free
will and only do as commanded by their Lord.
2. The Holy Qur'an also
tells us that the Jinn and their universe was
created from the purest form of Heat (energy), heat
without smoke (dust or un-burnt matter), since there
is no matter in their universe. It is not possible
to create any types of pure energy in our material
universe, not even in nuclear reactions, again due
to the requirement of disorder (imperfection) in
order that balance is maintained. We are told that
Jinn unlike Angels do have free will. Due to their
nature and knowledge of many of the secrets of the
Universes the Jinn know who their Master is and know
His power and Majesty; yet some of them like Iblis
(their leader) choose to disobey and try to oppose
the will of Allah (s.w.t.). Iblis (aka Lucifer) and
his followers are known as Shaytan (satan). They are
Shaytan (not Kafir) because they disobey even though
they have the knowledge. The obedient and believing
Jinn are like, in essence, to the Angels and are
known as Jinni Mu'min. It has been said along with
the Angels, the Jinni Mu'min are the helpers of
Prophets, Imams and true believers; and Shaytan
Jinni oppose all good and help the evil ones (the
shaytan amongst Mankind).
3. Mankind and our Material universe is created out
of Matter and its various forms (plasma and energy).
The Holy Qur'an tells us that we and our
universe are dependent on time, we occupy
space, we contain mass whereas Allah (s.w.t.) is the
negative of all these characteristics. When Allah (s.w.t.)
created our universe he created the
inanimate (non-living) and the animate
(living). The basic "ingredient " of the
animate creation is life itself.
Out of animate Allah
created 3 categories:
A. living
B. living and with soul (nafs)
C. living; with soul and with
spirit (Ruhu)
Bacteria, virus, lichen, plants and cold blooded
animals would fall into category A
Some, warm blooded animals and birds
would fall into category B.
Only Mankind (Bani Adham) will fall into category C.
Let us define what is
living.
A living thing is procreated by parent or parents,
it needs sustenance from its surroundings to
survive, it procreates, it uses up energy, it is
governed by time and will eventually die.
The nafs or soul
thrives on emotion and is responsible for enhancing
the instinctive or intuitive qualities of the
dreature, it resides in the "heart". It is
also responsible for good and bad
"feelings". Compassion, love,
sorrow.....etc... are the good feelings; whereas:
hate, greed, envy.....etc... are bad feelings.
Allah (s.w.t.) gave us,
the children of Adam (Bani Adham); the
Spirit (ruhu) so that the soul (nafs) and its
effects can be kept under check, so that the good
"feelings" are elevated (to a limit)
and the bad are suppressed' i.e. free will.
The reader may be wondering how the above
relates to cloning and human clones.
Clones are living beings
and must be argued from the context of the living or
animate creatures.
We can then ask
the questions:
-
Does
a clone have a soul or a spirit?
-
If
yes how did the soul and spirit get there?
-
Can
a human being live without soul and spirit?
-
Can
a being without a soul or spirit be defined as a
human?
-
If
it does have a soul and spirit, did Allah put it
there?
-
Is
Allah the real creator of the Clone; since the cell
from which the clone was cultivated, originated from a
living cell created from His original creation?
May
Allah give us patience and wisdom.
Ameen.
