Date of Birth: 15th August 1959
Place of Birth: The Holy City of Najaf, Iraq.

He was educated at the Alawi School, in Najaf and obtained his Higher Secondary Certificate of Education (HSC) in 1977. In the same year he was enrolled at the Hausa al-Ilimia in Najaf and commenced his indepth studies into the Islamic Sciences.

He studied at the Hausa for eleven years and completed all three levels of:

  • 1. Muqaddhima (Introduction)
  • 2. Sutoo'h (Intermediate)
  • 3. Kharij (Master)

with excellent marks.

He left the Hausa in 1988 on completion of his studies, as a master of Jurisprudence, Hadeeth Sciences, Qur'an Sciences, Akhlaq, Usul al-Fiqh and Islamic Philosophy.
He is also an authority on the biographies of the Twelve Imams (as).

In the same year, he and some members of his family fled Iraq due to the harsh repression of the Iraqi Regime against the Ulema (Islamic Scholars).

In 1989 he became the Director of the Darul Ilm Madressa and Institute in Bangkok, Thailand.

In 1990 he opened the Al-Khoei Foundation in Abercorn Place, London, UK.

From 1991 to the present he has been the Senior Imam and Director of the Imam Khoei Islamic Centres in Chevening Road, London and Swansea.

He is the son of the Mujtahid, Ayatullah Sayyid Sa'eed Muhammad Ridha al-Khalkhali who has been imprisoned by the Iraqi regime since 1992, since his abduction there has been no news about his state of health or condition, may Allah protect him. His eldest brother, Hujathul Islam Sayyid Muhammad Taqi al-Khalkhali was assasinated by the Iraqi regime in 1994, may Allah have mercy on his soul.

Sayyid Muhammad Sa'eed is married with three children.

Sayyid Saeed is currently (temporary)  based in Qum. IRI where he is continuing research in fiqh.
